Negative space, in art and Photography, is the space around and between the subject and subjects of an image.  Negative space forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape. Some people say that negative space is occasionally used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image. The use of negative space is a key element of artistic composition. However Elements of an image that distracts from the intended subject, or in the case of photography, objects in the same focal plane, are not considered negative space. Negative space in photography can be used to depict a subject in a chosen medium by showing everything around the subject but not the subject itself. Usage of negative space will produce a silhouette of the subject. Most often, though, negative space is used as a neutral or contrasting background to draw attention to the main subject which is then referred to as the positive space.

Silhouette photography seems really fun. When I researched this topic I found how to do it in about eight steps. The first is to pick a subject that is easy to identify its shape. Then one of the most important things is to make sure that your flash is off or it kind of ruins the purpose. Then the third step is to get the light to be behind the subject. Then before you take the picture you need to make sure the subject has a plain background behind it so the silhouette comes out really good. Another good tip is to make sure that all the subjects are separated and they aren’t cluttered together. The n you have the choice in taking it in manual or auto but I will be taking the photo in manual. Then you make sure the subject is focused and looks really crisp. Then take the picture and you have yourself a silhouette Photo.

I have learned a lot so far in photography 2. I thought I learned it all in photo 1 but I was kinda wrong. I think the biggest thing I learned this year was how to shoot a photo in manual mode. Its way harder and way more different than just the easy auto mode. I think making us using manual mode makes us more like pros and I think that is pretty cool. We have also learned a lot more in depth in photo and not only by my teacher but also my best friend Blake ashby. So far we have done a few really fun projects. In the magazine ad I learned how to use more text tutorials and more in depth to make it look like the object was actaully there in the background. Then in the trimal project we learned how to layer mask way better and created some really cool animals.
